A new mountain hotel for Extendam, with the opening of RockyPop Flaine, France

Extendam and Assas Hotels announce the opening of a new hotel in the heart of Flaine, a family-friendly French Alps resort, in December 2021. The 4-star RockyPop Flaine occupies a 6,000-square-metre building originally designed by modernist architect Marcel Breuer and recently renovated with great aplomb. The interior design, by Leslie Gauthier, is a far cry from the usual mountain stereotypes, with bright colours, retro furnishings and touches of pop art. In keeping with her usual style, she has come up with an elegant and fun atmosphere for this new version of the RockyPop, combining entertainment with a communal-living feel. Mixed use and flexibility are the order of the day, with 118 rooms or apartments that can sleep between 2 and 10 people, and a diverse service offering.

On the upper ground level, the bar is the nerve centre of the hotel. It is where people meet for a drink after a day on the slopes, relax by the fire, play billiards or table football, and even sing karaoke. With three restaurants on the lower-ground floor, there is something for everyone. The cuisine is varied, from big, food-truck-style buffets to regional specialities in the Frometon restaurant, and even a Sushi House.

The Nuxe Spa is a 400 m² space dedicated to wellness within the confines of the hotel. With its stone-inspired interiors, it offers an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, herbal tearoom and four treatment rooms. There is also a dedicated children’s area, where little ones can relax or have fun without disturbing the tranquillity of the space. The hotel’s top-of-the-range services also include meeting rooms, a ski shop and a grocery store.

“We wanted to create a relaxed hotel in this family-friendly resort, which is a firm favourite of ours, and we wanted to move away from the traditional hotel codes. The large common areas entice guests out of their rooms to relax, enjoy themselves and share genuine experiences. Without losing the spirit of our first RockyPop, we have made sure that we have a diverse range of food and accommodation options to suit a wide variety of guests, including couples, families, conference attendees, small and large groups, for short-, medium- or long-term stays. We can’t wait to reveal all this in a few weeks when the hotel opens,” comments Romain Trollet, founding director of the Assas Hotels group.

“Flaine is the fifth-largest ski resort in France, and one of its most attractive. The RockyPop Flaine is easily accessible by train and shuttle bus, or by car, and is ideally located at the heart of the resort, close to the tourist office, shops, bars and restaurants, and ski lifts. This project, which is about to become a reality, is a perfect example of Extendam’s investment strategy: developing contemporary, responsible hotels that offer a superior guest experience and play an active role in local neighbourhoods and as a tourist destination thanks to a versatile and adaptable service offering. We are also thrilled to be contributing to this hotel’s emergence alongside Romain Trollet and the Assas Hotels team, a long-standing partner of ours, which goes on proving its expertise year after year,” add Bertrand Pullès, Inès de l’Aulnoit and Caroline Betemps, Extendam.
