Sustainable urban regeneration by Hotel Not Hotel and Extendam
Extendam has been supporting the Dutch Hotel Not Hotel group in its development in the Netherlands since 2021. The Hotel Not Hotel Rotterdam came to life in recent weeks following 18 months of work to clean and convert 960 square metres of former office space on three floors into a 36-room hotel. It offers further potential in the shape of up to 51 rooms and a 200 square-metre botanical garden in the heart of Rotterdam.
The project has contributed to property upgrading in the heart of a dense urban area.
The new hotel is next to Rotterdam’s train station. Rotterdam is a rising star in the tourism industry, with more and more travellers coming to the city every year to discover what the gateway to Europe has to offer. Hotel Not Hotel Rotterdam boasts quick access to the office buildings surrounding the train station while being close to major tourist attractions such as the Market Hall and Erasmus Bridge. The city’s industrial port is also within easy reach.
Hotel Not Hotel Rotterdam aims to break with hotel tradition by adapting its offer and services to young workers. It features comfortable, spacious common areas that entice guests out of their rooms to enjoy themed food and drink venues. The city-centre establishment is designed to meet the surrounding neighbourhood’s needs as well as the expectations of leisure and business guests from all walks of life. Since the hotel opened, its occupancy rate and performance have been constantly improving, driven by high standards and attractive F&B services. Its occupancy rate reached 85% in May 2022 and the summer looks promising.
“It is a real pleasure to support Hotel Not Hotel because it is one of the best examples of mixed-use, more flexible hotels. We firmly believe in this concept and will be accelerating its roll-out. We are delighted with the successful launch of Hotel Not Hotel Rotterdam, which demonstrates that its positioning has reached a diverse client base that we expect to grow,” explains Cécile Leclerc, Account Manager at Extendam.
“By regenerating cities from the inside out in this way, we intend to create value while limiting urban sprawl and, in this case, cleaning up obsolete assets to rise to the challenges of environmental preservation and sustainable development,” adds Jean-Marc Palhon, Chairman of Extendam.
