easyHotel Madrid Centro Atocha: Extendam’s off-plan purchase opens its doors

Following two years of work, the easyHotel Madrid Centro Atocha has opened its doors, enabling the public to discover its 230 rooms, generous balconies and sundeck. Continuum Hospitality Group, Extendam’s long-standing partner in Spain, is running the establishment. The launch is the result of Extendam acquiring the off-plan economy hotel in 2020.

Situated in a unique location in the heart of Madrid on Calle de Mendez Alvaro and just a few hundred metres from the Atocha high-speed train station, the new 230-room easyHotel will cater for both business and leisure guests. Madrid is an extremely attractive city for both types of guest. The hotel sits in a prime location at the heart of a dynamic area undergoing renovation. Several companies, such as Repsol, have established their headquarters nearby.

The hotel is positioned in the highly resilient budget segment and can cater for both domestic and international guests. Its service offering is a cut above the level generally observed on the Spanish market.

easyHotel: a fast-growing European brand

The easyJet group’s hotel company focuses on low-cost hotels and operates establishments in the UK, Spain (Barcelona), Ireland (Dublin), and France (Nice, Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport and soon in Aubervilliers). Under its franchise model, the company also has hotels in Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. The group plans to expand into the major European capitals to reach the 100-hotel mark by 2026.

“After Malaga, this is our second opening under the easyHotel franchise with Continuum Hospitality Group. The partners chosen and the strategic locations of the future assets fully meet Extendam’s investment criteria. The easyHotel Madrid Centro Atocha also addresses a major shortage of budget hotels in Spain. These factors and the hotel’s successful launch make us confident for the future,” say Anna Cohen and Matthieu Dracs, respectively Investment Manager and Managing Director at Extendam.

“Spain is the second or third most visited country in the world after France and the USA with 31.7 million visits in 2021 and 84 million visitors in 2019. It is one of the European countries where new hotel projects can still be confidently developed given the market depth. More land is available than in France, Great Britain, Germany and Italy, which creates favourable conditions for new hotel projects,” explains Jean-Marc Palhon, Chairman of Extendam.
